Many Are Your Thoughts Toward Us
“Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works which you have done; and Your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to You in order; If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.” Psalm 40:5
Immediately, after I read this passage in my Bible, I gazed out of my window and pondered what I had just read. How amazing is it that the God of heaven is thinking about us! How is this possible? I thought, there are so many human beings on this planet. Perhaps His thoughts are not always of us “individually”. But just maybe they are. How comforting it is to know that God is actually thinking thoughts about us. And Psalm 40 says his thoughts of us are too many to even be numbered!
In Psalm 8, David considered also how this could be: “When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers - the moon and the stars you set in place – what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? (Psalm 8:3 – 4 NLT)
These are viable questions, but the fact remains that God really loves us! When you love someone – really love someone – like your husband or your boyfriend, or your kids – you think about them a lot don’t you? You may even stop in the middle of a sentence and think: “Oh, I need to text my daughter.” Or think: “I wonder how my son is?” Or you think about how much you miss someone who has passed away and left you feeling alone. You miss them so much based upon the deep love that you have for them.
God created us in His own image and likeness (Genesis 1:27) and we should probably be able to understand and relate that He does think about us so much. Because, let’s be honest, His love for us is far greater than any love that we could ever have for anyone. Including our love for Him. Because God is love. (1 John 4:18)
So, the next time you’re going through something difficult, remember how much God loves you and thinks about you. He knows exactly the pain and hurting that you’ve experienced. And He knows exactly what should be done to handle that problem for you. He’s guiding you in the way you need to go to get a solution. Just trust Him and have faith in His word. And keep seeking Him!
Think about it: Tell God about your situations. Be patient and thankful and know that He’s thinking about you – day and night too!
Lean in: Read Psalm 40 verse 5 again. Write it down on a paper or index card, and put it somewhere that you will see it daily as a reminder of how much God loves and cares for you!
